"GP.next" Will Introduce Cloud Optimization and Multi-Device Companion Apps for Microsoft Dynamics GP
The successor to Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 is due out in 2015, and code-named "GP.next", Jeff Trosen, product unit manager, told an audience at Convergence 2013 in New Orleans.
While GP managers are looking for suggestions, they also have a more immediate offering on the agenda: Service Pack 1 for GP 2013, due out next month. It will include upgrades in such areas as returns management, contract management, U.S. payroll, human resources, Excel-based budgeting, and payment services, according to Trosen.
GP.next will include a "service-based architecture," meaning that it will be "cloud optimized," in addition to offering extended capabilities for on-premise users. Trosen said it will lower IT costs because it can share more components on fewer servers while simultaneously being able to handle more transactions than GP 2013.
It will also have multiple companion applications, he said. These include apps like Business Analyzer, which is a part of GP 2013. The companion apps will be "role centric" and will work on tablets, smart phones, and laptops.
Another companion app, demonstrated at the Convergence session by Chad Sogge, principal group program manager for GP, was a prototype procurement and requisitions program. He showed how the procurement process can be simplified, while still including appropriate controls. "It is a nice easy way to get the casual user to easily make requisitions," he said.
Trosen encouraged Dynamics GP users to make suggestions for GP.next features via MS Connect. He advised users to comment and add to suggestions already made, since so many have already come in.
