At FRx Session, GP Users’ Focus Squarely on Management Reporter

What do you get when you put a couple hundred FRx users together at Convergence 2010's GPUG DayONE event?  You get a forum on Management Reporter (MR) version 2, the future of financial reporting and performance management for Microsoft Dynamics ERP.

The most pressing questions from customers might be expected: Can I still use FRx? Can I import my FRx reports to MR? How long can I use FRx? Will it work with GP 2010? How will my licenses transfer to MR?  And on from there.  (The answers: Yes, FRx is still alive and will be for at least 2 to 3 years with limited future service packs; FRx reports should migrate over smoothly...but there will be gaps; Yes, FRx will work with GP 2010.  Licenses will transfer from FRx to MR.  )

Craig Anderson of MSX Group led the session and took on these questions and more from over 100 FRx users.  He explained to the audience that MR is not only an FRx replacement, but "the first step in delivering broader performance management across Dynamics."

Many times Anderson reminded the audience that Microsoft is aware that MR in its current state is still lacking some features, but that those gaps will be filled in as they get more feedback from users.

The steady stream of questions hit on a wide variety of areas.  Here some of the most interesting items:

  • MR still has reporting trees. Units of the reporting tree can be built on any combination of segments. And those units can be reorganized in the tree with drag and drop.
