Doc Attach for Microsoft Dynamics GP and the return of Clippy

I broke my rule the other day and answered someone's question instead of writing something to address that question for others. I'm fixing that with this article. I recently had a question on when Microsoft Dynamics GP would add Doc Attach to journal entries. My answer was "you can already do that, and you've been able to do that since GP 2013 R2".

Doc Attach for Microsoft Dynamics GPDocument Attachment, or Doc Attach, exists in two places in Dynamics GP. In some screens, there is a large paperclip icon designed to trigger the Doc Attach window. We'll call this Clippy Jr., as it's a bit of an homage to Clippy, the virtual helper in old versions of Microsoft Office. This is what most people think of when Doc Attach is mentioned. It was what my questioner had in mind when they asked about Doc Attach for journal entries, but Clippy Jr. only exists for certain types of transactions. Despite that, documents can be attached to any transaction.

In any window in Dynamics GP, selecting the note icon next to a transaction number opens a note for that transaction. Clicking the small paperclip icon in the note activates Doc Attach and allows a user to attach a note for this transaction. This is different from the old OLE notes. The window that opens from the little paperclip is the new Doc Attach window.
