Collaboration meets Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012: A knowledge management use case

Extending Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 CookbookIf you have Microsoft Dynamics AX up and running, then chances are you already have SharePoint installed and configured since it is (hopefully) the foundation for all of the Role Centers and Enterprise Portals.  It would be a shame if that is all that you use SharePoint for.

SharePoint can add value to your Dynamics AX solution by providing collaboration areas through its Wiki feature, which allows everyone to update an organization's knowledge base.  As a web-based, structured set of information, wiki pages can then be attached to any form in Dynamics AX so that users are able to view information.

In this article we will walk through the steps to build such a repository of product descriptions and specification that can be viewed alongside the related items in Dynamics AX.  The example we walk through will require you to add to your existing SharePoint sites, so you will need to have administrator rights to SharePoint.  Also, there is some X++ coding required.  Each has only about 10 lines of simple code, so even the novices should be able to work through the examples.
