Clarified: Microsoft Explains Dates, Conditions for Dynamics NAV Light to Limited User License Transitions

Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013 pricing and licensingMicrosoft Dynamics NAV MVP Vjekoslav Babic's recent article examining the implications of the new Limited User license for NAV 2013 led several readers to express questions about Microsoft's plans for transitioning licenses from Light User to Limited User.

Michelle Mathis, Senior Pricing Manager at Microsoft, was kind enough to offer the following clarification on the dates that govern the transition of existing licenses from Light User.  Here is her statement on the matter:

"There are two dates to keep in mind for this. On July 11ththe traditional "Light User" was discontinued and replaced by the "Light User - Limited Upgrade".  There were announcements on July 11th on PartnerSource to describe this changes for NAV.  These two different SKUs have different upgrade rights.  For the "Light User" (aka purchased prior to July 11th), when the customer upgrades to NAV 2013 they will receive 1 Full User for every Light User.  For the "Light User - Limited Upgrade" (purchased from July 11th), when the customer upgrades to NAV 2013 they will receive 1 Limited User for every three Light User - Limited Upgrade users (and we do round up).
