Azure Updates: Red Hat; Azure SQL; Cost Management; Atlanta datacenter

Scott Guthrie joined Red Hat's Paul Cormier in a keynote at Red Hat Summit 2021 on open hybrid cloud opportunities. In connection with the event, Microsoft is previewing JBoss Enterprise Application Platform (EAP) for App Service, offering onboarding for Red Hat OpenShift clusters to Arc-enabled Kubernetes, boosting Ansible-Azure integration, and providing ways to migrate Red Hat Enterprise Linux subscriptions to Pay As You Go images. Additionally, Hybrid Benefit for Linux supports Azure Reserved Instances.

Azure VP John "JG" Chirapauth shared ways to achieve business transformation with Azure SQL. In October, Microsoft held its first digital event for Azure SQL focusing on scalability and migrating mission critical workloads from on-prem. On May 4, the company will host a new session with Rohan Kumar and a variety of SQL experts. The event will include MVP attendees emphasizing IaaS, PaaS, and SQL Edge.

Azure Compute Head of Product Paul Nash encouraged customers to take advantage of new Dv5 and Ev5-series VMs for Confidential Computing, which use Intel 3rd Gen Xeon Scalable processors. The new processors promise up to a 15 percent increase in performance and improved price performance compared with Dv4 and Ev4-series VMs. Nash shared specs for general-purpose and memory-intensive workloads. Microsoft also touted Dsv5 and Edv5 VMs. He wrote:
