5 Tips to Achieve Training Success in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations Implementations

When you start a Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations (D365FO) implementation, you have several tasks like picking subject matter experts, planning design sessions, updating to your organization, and keeping track of your project progress. One of the tasks that can be overlooked when the implementation team is busy with everything else is end user training.

There are common pitfalls organizations fall into when planning end user training. Some examples include: starting end user training too late, building materials focused on software functionality, focusing solely on classroom training that is hard to schedule and staff, creating training materials that are long and difficult to understand, and not engaging end users enough to keep them motivated.

In this article, we will discuss how you can overcome these potential missteps and make your end user training a winner.

1. Start early

Make sure to start communicating and connecting with your end users as early as possible. At the beginning, you can start with topics like the goals of the implementation, what D365FO is, and what the end users should expect in the next few months. These topics can be introduced in short presentations in person or recorded. Then, they should be followed by introduction of online training.

2. Focus on roles

D365FO is constructed around modules and functions organized under them. Rather than following this structure, you should build training materials focused on the role of the end user and the skills she is expected to gain. For example, instead of creating training for the Accounts Receivable module, you should build it to train an AR Clerk, Collections Lead, AR Manager, etc.
