Microsoft Dataverse Fabric Link adds faster data sync, table-level controls

Editor, MSDynamicsWorld.com

The latest updates to Microsoft Dataverse Fabric Link add faster data sync, service principal authentication, and improved table-level granularity.

Microsoft’s Shiv Narayanan announced the updates. They include:

  • Management of which Dataverse and F&O app tables are linked to Fabric.
  • Support for Workspace Identity and Service Principal authentication in addition to organizational account credentials
  • Low-latency sync, which reduces data sync times “to under 15 minutes for most observed cases”.

These enhancements will make Dataverse “feel more like a first-class analytics source”, Narayanan wrote, because it will reduce the need for custom integration work, give greater control, and offer stronger authentication options.

Dataverse Fabric Link (a.k.a., “Link to Fabric”) connects a Dataverse environment to Microsoft Fabric and creates an analytics-ready representation of selected tables in OneLake, Fabric’s unified data lake. It avoids the need for custom ETL pipelines.

While administration of Fabric Link in Power Platform can be found alongside Azure Synapse Link controls, the two are separate approaches that Microsoft has been advising Dynamics 365 CE and F&SCM customers on since 2024.

Azure Synapse Link for Dataverse has been another supported option for Dynamics 365 F&SCM customers looking to provide near-live analytical views of their business data. As Microsoft explains on Learn:

Azure Synapse Link for Dataverse enables IT admins to export data to their own storage and build data integration pipelines. Azure Synapse Link assists with provisioning and configuring Azure resources within an integrated experience.

Link to Fabric feature enables direct connectivity between your data in Dataverse with Microsoft Fabric without the need to bring your own storage and Synapse workspaces. Link to Fabric leverages storage built into Dataverse and removes the need to provision and manage your own storage.
