Why Your Storefront and ERP Disagree on Price
Imagine a buyer moving through a purchase on a commerce portal connected to Dynamics 365 Business Central. They are a wholesale account with a negotiated price structure. They have dealt with this supplier for three years. They know what they pay. When they land on a product page, the price looks right. They add the item to their cart. A promotional discount from a campaign that ended last week still appears at the top of the cart. It looks active. They proceed to checkout. The total changes. The promotion has been removed. The price shown on the product page no longer matches what the system is enforcing. The order completes, but the buyer is left wondering whether the business changed the rules somewhere between the product page and the confirmation screen.
This scenario reveals two important problems that share a single root cause, and getting to that cause is what determines whether an integration holds up in practice or just on paper.
What the Product Page Does Not Know
In Business Central and Dynamics 365 Finance, pricing is often a calculation, performed at the moment an order is evaluated, against a set of conditions: which customer group the buyer belongs to, what quantity they are ordering, whether a time-bound price window is still active, and whether a contract applies to this specific account.
