Azure Updates: Army edge computing; Voltus; Cost Management; Databases

Workers at Microsoft headquarters are back in the office after the US Thanksgiving holiday. With just a few weeks to go until the end of the year, Microsoft is wasting no time issuing small but important announcements about Azure, rounding out a week rich in channel collaboration news.

Microsoft’s director of Semiconductor and EDA, Richard Paw, shared details about Voltus on Azure. With the growth of AI and hyperscale designs, Voltus is an IC Power Integrity Signoff Solution from Cadence Design Systems used to verify the reliability of power networks on chip. Paw wrote:

The elasticity of Voltus architecture enables the tool to run faster with a higher number of CPUs and since the CPUs are used for a smaller amount of time, the result is that the total cost drops to an optimal point…This is a win-win situation where you can improve your performance and reduce your costs.

Legal Technology reports that large law firm Linklaters has used Azure Cognitive Search to change precise terms throughout its documents, amending words related to gender in its contracts. In India, Bank of Baroda announced the winners of a massive hackathon from across India coordinated with Microsoft. The winners emerged out of over 23,000 submissions with an AI and ML-based digital avatar.
