How to upload budgets into Dynamics GP

Writing on the Stoneridge Software blog, Cory Severson reminded readers that it's time to get budgets loaded into Dynamics GP.

Severson stated that Dynamics GP makes it easy by allowing users to import/export data with a wizard and the favorite tool of accountants, Excel. Once the budgets are in, you’ll be able to report on your budgets using Dynamics GP, Management Reporter, or other reporting tools, such as Jet Reports.

In his blog post, Severson detailed the process of setting up a new budget for the Fabrikam Company and importing it back into Dynamics GP.

The first thing you have to do navigate to the budget selection window by going to cards > financial > budgets. After completing the steps Sevenson outlined in his blog post, the budget will now be in Dynamics GP with the data from the upload and you can view budget numbers in GP from the cards and inquiry menus.

He also explained how to access the new budget if you're using Management Reporter for budget/actual reports.

GP Upgrades – know your environment part 4

On her blog, Jen Kuntz continued her series on GP upgrades with part four of "know your environment" topic. In previous posts, (which she links to in this post), she covered product types, ISV products, and a bit about identifying external applications.

In this post, she discussed what she looked for in terms of integrations and things to consider for upgrades.

She explained that although there are many types of integrations, the most common are the user-driven. i.e., ad-hoc integrations, and system-driven integrations, such as real-time system to system integrations (how external applications might integrate to GP) or scheduled integration points between systems. She then offered detailed information about those common integrations, noting that the more you understand about your environmentthe better you're testing and go live plan will be.
