Power BI pros discuss how to make the most of select-all slicers, adding dates to a table, and refreshing Power Pivot Excel data models.

Making the most of select-all slicers

Chris Webb blogged about how to manage select all slicers bound to dynamic M parameters in Power BI. Back in 2020, Webb wrote about multi-select scenarios with dynamic M parameters, but select all support was added by Microsoft since then. He explained that because a slicer with no items selected acts the same as a slicer with all items selected, users need additional logic to make everything work correctly.

Using a DirectQuery table and an Import mode table, he setup an M parameter and then enabled both multi-select and select all. Webb demoed his M code and explained a final filter rows step.
