Preparing for the next phase in FHIR interoperability with Microsoft Azure

Over the last few months the Microsoft Azure team has been steadily adding support for Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources. Better known as FHIR, it represents an emerging standard to improve health data sharing between disparate electronic health record systems in the at times fragmented US healthcare system.

Two of Microsoft's key initiatives, the Azure API for FHIR and the Internet of Medical Things FHIR Connector have the potential to play a part in the modernization of both IT systems and the way medical devices play a role in care. MSDW spoke with health and life science executives to get their perspectives on what this means for the market.
