Microsoft Dynamics Profile: It's an entrepreneur's life for first-time MVP Dmitry Katson

Dmitry KatsonSome six years ago, newly minted Microsoft Dynamics MVP Dmitry Katson, made a very farfetched prediction to a friend, who was an MVP at the time: In the not too distant future there will no longer be NAV customizations. Rather, there will only be extensions that can be easily installed and removed.

"At that moment, it seemed impossible," says Katson, owner of AirApps in St. Petersburg, Russia. "We didn't even have the technologies and the extension model. But now, six years later, we have AppSource for NAV (a.k.a., Business Central). Is it a miracle? No, it's a necessity. And what do I see as a necessity in the near future? It's artificial intelligence or smart apps."

Extending Business Central with smart apps

According to Katson, the main focus of his company is to extend Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central with modern smart apps. He believes this goal can be achieved in three ways:

  1. Create their own smart apps for Business Central. Some of them are under development now, some going through the validation process at Microsoft.
  2. Help other partners to move their IP to the cloud by teaching them how to do it or doing it all for them.
  3. Contributing - Katson says his MVP status gives him better access to the R&D team of Business Central. Additionally, he tries to follow all the new initiatives, offer his vision, and contribute on GitHub and in blogs. "It's awesome to see how your initiatives become reality," he says.
