Dynamics 365 online authenticate with user credentials

On the Magnetism blog, John Towgood stated that Integrating with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Online is pretty clear-cut because it exposes Web API endpoints.

The most difficult part, however, is authenticating. The reason: Dynamics 365 Online uses OAuth 2.0 as an authentication method and a valid access bearer token issued by Microsoft Azure Active Directory is needed and used in every HTTP requests to the Web API.

In his blog post, Towgood explained that one of the ways to authenticate and obtain a bearer token is using user credentials (active CRM user's username and password). He also discussed how obtain a bearer token from a refresh token when the token is expired.
