Microsoft Highlights Dynamics AX 2012’s Public Sector Capabilities, Announces First Planned Deployment

At the recent Government Finance Officers Association Annual Conference, Microsoft Corp. highlighted new public sector capabilities in Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012.

"Public sector organizations have long experienced inflexible, legacy ERP systems, hindering their ability to support open government, compliance requirements and fiscal accountability," said Charlie Johnson, global industry product director, public sector, Microsoft Dynamics, in a statement. "Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 will support these requirements at the rapid pace government organizations need to better serve their citizens."

Dynamics AX 2012 offers pre-built capabilities designed for government organizations that need to respond well to constituent needs and legislative mandates. For example, government organizations can manage multiyear grants and projects more easily with configurable budgetary controls that proactively track revenues, expenditures and personnel resources against defined budget objectives, according to Microsoft.

Dynamics AX 2012 enables public sector organizations to be more accountable, increases citizen satisfaction, and helps address accounting requirements issued by the Governmental Accounting Standards Board and International Public Sector Accounting Standards.

In July, the City of Redmond announced it will go live with Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012, replacing its old JD Edwards ERP system, which couldn't provide all the public-service capabilities and flexibility that the city needed. As part of an early adoption program, the city worked closely with Microsoft product teams and developers to make Dynamics AX 2012 a powerful solution for the public sector. The city will also upgrade to Windows 7 and Microsoft Office 2010 around place around the same time.
