Microsoft will launch Dynamics NAV 2018 this year, with new Dynamics 365 SMB variants coming in 2018

Microsoft will be releasing the next on-premises version of Dynamics NAV, now revealed as NAV 2018, later this calendar year.

And the plans for the future of Dynamics 365 for the SMB market, which were thrown into uncertainty earlier this week, now appear to have solidified, too. Microsoft will offer both a standard and a customizable platform version of the cloud-based Dynamics 365 "Tenerife" SMB ERP solution, based on NAV.

In a new blog post, Microsoft Dynamics product marketing chief Alysa Taylor summarized the range of changes that her team has made as a result of input this week from Dynamics partners at both Directions North America and the Inner Circle event for executives of top performing partners.

The decisions in Taylor's blog post include:

  • Microsoft will drop the Business and Enterprise editions and instead will offer a single collection of Dynamics 365 applications for customers of all sizes and levels of complexity. These apps appear to remain consistent with existing released and planned offerings: Marketing, Sales, Service, Finance, Operations, and Talent.
  • There will be two tiers of Sales app. The lower tier, which is due in spring 2018, will have a smaller set of capabilities and a lower price point.
  • Dynamics 365 "Tenerife" will live on as "an expansion of Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations Business Edition adding the full capabilities of Dynamics NAV," according to Taylor
  • Tenerife (Taylor did not indicate whether that codename still holds) will be presented in two distinct offerings: ...
