Power BI Service April Update: ExpressRoute for Power BI

Microsoft on its Power BI blog announced that Power BI is now integrated with Azure ExpressRoute.

Companies using Power BI can use ExpressRoute to establish private, managed connections to Power BI. As Microsoft describes ExpressRoute, its connections don't go over the public Internet, but do offer more reliability, faster speeds, lower latencies, and higher security than typical Internet connections.

Program Manager Amanda Cofsky describes Power BI via ExpressRoute as a "great option for companies that require premium, managed connectivity for their productivity services." Customers can define all aspects of their network connectivity provider's connection from Microsoft to users, which in turn ensures predictable network performance and availability.

Cofsky described ExpressRoute:

[It is an Azure Service] that lets you create private connections between Azure datacenters and your on-premises infrastructure, or create private connections between Azure datacenters and your colocation environment. Now with Power BI and ExpressRoute, you can create a private network connection from your organization to Power BI (or using an ISP's colocation facility), bypassing the Internet to better secure your sensitive data and connections.

Thus, ExpressRoute delivers the benefits of the public cloud with on-premise network privacy, all with near-perfect availability. Each ExpressRoute circuit automatically delivers two active physical connections for high availability, and the Microsoft networking elements are backed by Microsoft's connection uptime service-level agreement (SLA of 99.9). And with ExpressRoute, most network traffic avoids the public Internet for added data privacy.
