Six Lessons from Microsoft Convergence 2012

Keeping a finger on the pulse of the technology industry is one of the keys to achieving continued success in this ever-changing marketplace. As businesses evolve to meet the growing demand for efficiency, transparency and agility, it's more important than ever to understand customer challenges and evolve with them to address those needs.

There can be tremendous value in taking an active role at industry events and conferences whether it be through conversations with prospects, meetings with partners and customers or participating in educational sessions. For example, Microsoft Convergence 2012, which took place in March, proved to be a highly informative and vibrant event and the entire Metafile team left Houston feeling energized and even more prepared to help our customers succeed.

Here are six key takeaways from this year's Microsoft Convergence:

  1. Cloud: While Microsoft is a staunch champion for the transition to the cloud, many partners are determining how best to approach this shift with their customers, including how to balance between on-premise and hosted solutions. Microsoft urges partners to work with each customer on an individual approach to each implementation. As stated by Microsoft COO Kevin Turner during his keynote, "the important thing I want you to note is we're building a cloud where you decide where and how you want to go to the cloud."
  2. Security Is Top of Mind: During his keynote, Turner indicated that many enterprise-level technology decision makers are looking to strike a balance between flexibility and usability for the end-user and security and management for the IT department.
