Cloud Adoption Among SMBs Rising, Microsoft Study Finds

There is no shortage of cloud-related news and discussion in the Microsoft Dynamics ecosystem.  And new research from Microsoft indicates that more small and mid-size business (SMBs) will pay for cloud services over the next five years.

The research conducted by Edge Strategies includes responses from IT decision makers or influencers at more than 3,000 SMBs in 13 countries.

According to the research, 59% of SMBs currently using cloud services report that technology has made them more productive, compared with just 30% of SMBs not yet using non-cloud/on-premise technology.  There is no indication in the report that cloud technology was the causal factor in improved productivity, although a major cloud provider might not dissuade such an assumption.   

Additionally, 63% SMBs using cloud services today expect to increase sales in the next 12 to 18 months while 55% believe technology will power their growth, according to the research.

The report, which  also predicts that the number of paid cloud services is expected to double in five years. In addition, over the next three years, more of the world's smallest companies using at least one paid cloud service will triple.

50% of SMBs in the survey say cloud computing will be more important for their operations, and 58% reported a belief that cloud services could make companies more competitive.
