Microsoft Trumpets Expanded HR Capabilities of Dynamics AX 2009

As the call goes out in many organizations-"Do more with less"-the pressure mounts to figure out ways to get the most out of human resources.

In that spirit, Tonya Omdahl, a Microsoft program manager for Human Capital Management, gave a demonstration of the HR capabilities of Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009-its HR Essentials and HR Talent.

Her demonstration, "How Dynamics AX can help manage human capital," highlighted the following capabilities:

- The Organization page, which provides:

• Organization view, including an organizational chart type feature, with which users can keep drilling up and down and slice information.
• Reporting relationships view - rather than looking at structured lines of reporting, users can access position-to-position reporting.

- Job page - list of all jobs in the organization, including:

• Definitions - A job is a collection of a unit of work vs. position, which is individual people to eventually do that work
• Can edit the job record live, so users have the option to make the change that isn't date effective (just cleaning up something that was entered inadvertently)
• Can track job description by "document handling". Attach job description to existing job, can make changes and track them by date effective change.
• Lots of ways to leverage "date effectivity"
• "unique" box is creating a job that only allows you to associate one position to it, if that box isn't checked, can associate as many as you want.
• On position level, can track association to particular organization (don't have to associate job to organization)
• Can create mass hire projects that leverage recruiting capability, useful for seasonal hires.
