Due to the extensive process for product creation, it has become increasingly important to develop a tool by which an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solution can assist in PLM. Later versions of Microsoft Dynamics AX, as well as the most recent Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations, address these needs more successfully. However, the first step is understanding previous releases of Dynamics AX (2012 and prior), with regards to managing PLM processes.
