Webcast Recap: Going mobile with Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations
Rick Schoenecker, infrastructure and technology consultant at PowerObjects, joined MSDW for a webcast exploring how to go mobile with Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations (D365FO), including an overview of the mobile platform and guidance on how to both create and deploy different types of mobile workspaces.
The mobile platform
Out of the box, D365FO has mobile workspaces that allow users to reuse logic already in the system. As a low-code approach that will appeal to the citizen developer mindset, customers can add mobile workspaces for users who need to work when network connection is spotty or when a device is entirely offline. Mobile workspaces can be tailored to a specific organization by power users, developers, and admins.
To begin the process, a user must open the mobile workspace, which initiates a connection to D365FO. The mobile app caches data in case there isn't continuous connectivity, allowing for activities to still take place even with intermittent service. Looking up customer information with the data cached, it will do its first search off of cached data before reaching out to the server. As Rick explained:
If I'm online, it will try to sync up with the mobile app framework and it pulls the information back and I can interact with it at that point. You can see the results of queued operations which are ultimately synchronized back to FO.
