Summit North America Preview: Improving Microsoft Dynamics NAV performance

As User Group Summit North America approaches, October 15-18 in Orlando, Florida, some users are eager to gain insights on challenges and share feedback with Microsoft to help guide the future of Dynamics.  Anthony Darden, Vice President - IT at Protective Industries Inc., spoke with MSDW about the topics he'll be presenting on and what he hopes to get out of the event.

Retooling NAV

Darden's company is a manufacturer of product protection, offering a range of products across many processes including vinyl dip, extrusion, rubber and plastic injection molding.  They serve a wide range of industries such as automotive, aerospace, energy and healthcare.  When he first got involved, the company was using NAV 3.7. In the midst of a Dynamics NAV 2009 R2 upgrade, he halted the process and shifted over to NAV 2013, which went live in 2014.

Heading into this year's Summit event, he plans to present a session about ways to speed up NAV and co-present on NAV workflows.

This past April we upgraded to NAV 2018. It's the ERP system for all of our North America operations. For international operations, we are moving to Business Central SaaS.  We've also added Dynamics 365 for Sales and Customer Service in the cloud for global CRM.

While he supported the move from NAV 2013 to NAV 2018, the experience has presented unique challenges in addition to the benefits that the newer version offered.
