Setting up coupon codes in Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Retail

February 7 2019

I have worked on several Microsoft Dynamics 365 Retail implementation projects, the largest of which so far was for a sporting goods retailer with several stores throughout the South Asia region. D365 for Retail provides mid-market and large retailers with a complete head office and point of sale (POS) solution that includes support for online and brick-and-mortar stores. It can help retailers increase financial returns, improve service, manage growth, reach customers, and streamline efficiencies.

A lot of retailers approach us with requirements related to the setup and application of coupons for retail stores. Because this is such a common request, I have detailed the process.

Store code and set up the manual process

Step1: Create a barcode mask character for the coupon code:

Step 2: Create a new barcode mask set up. Keep the type set as coupon.

Step 3: Create a bar code for the coupon, and assign the mask ID which was created in the 2nd step.

Step 4: Create a number sequence for the coupon code ID and coupon number.

Step 5: Set the retail parameters for the coupon and assign the mask ID created earlier.

Step 6:  Create a new discount. Mention the discount price, products in lines, price group, valid discount account and enable the required coupon code.

Check the parameters.

Next, set the program to coupon required.

Step 7: Create a new coupon. Mention the usage limit, usage type, associate discount to the coupon and create a new line for coupon. Activate the coupon. The barcode will be generated--make a note of it.

These are the steps to setup a coupon code in D365 for Retail. Finally, to redeem the coupon, scan the product barcode, which will apply the discount to the product.

Working with D365 for Retail offers many benefits to retailers spanning the physical and e-commerce realms, but success hinges on getting the small steps right—like setting up coupons correctly.
