Roadmap Update: Microsoft to balance Dynamics GP on the Intelligent Edge

Microsoft will launch the next major update to Dynamics GP, GP 2018 R2, in October 2018. The new timing (previous updates had been closer to the end of the year) will coincide with the broader October 2018 release wave of Microsoft business applications. In addition to the typical on-premises GP software, Microsoft will add a new option to deploy GP 2018 R2 in conjunction with a data-synchronized cloud instance of Dynamics 365 Business Central for analytics and mobile access.

Pricing for the synchronization option is not yet known (marked as "$TBD" in the slide photographed above), but it appears to be a key part of Microsoft's new positioning of legacy on-premises ERPs (Dynamics GP, NAV, and SL) as "intelligent edge" entities that should be brought together with the vast constellation of Azure-based services Microsoft now refers to as the "intelligent cloud."
