For process manufacturing and distribution firms evaluating or implementing Microsoft Dynamics AX as their ERP solution, the depth of the product's capabilities is both one of its greatest benefits and challenges.  Learning the range of features and functions is essential for leveraging the business models embedded in the software, and the relevant information varies for different teams and organizations.

Aware of these challenges after years of teaching and implementing Dynamics AX, consultant and author Dr. Scott Hamilton's latest book, Managing Process Manufacturing using Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009, examines the software capabilities for supporting business processes in different types of process industries.    The book walks readers through the operational and supply chain management aspects of running a process business and includes more than 70 case studies.

Managing Process Manufacturing examines functionality within the incremental release of Dynamics AX 2009 for process manufacturing.  This functionality originated with Dynamics AX partner Fullscope, and it evolved and matured over several Dynamics AX releases and numerous implementations prior to its acquisition by Microsoft.

One of the challenges in writing the book, according to Hamilton, is the various categories of readers who can benefit from the book contents.  The book contents have been segmented to assist readers within distribution or manufacturing firms, at different stages of the system implementation life cycle (system selection, implementation and on-going operation), and at different levels of prior AX knowledge.  The segmentation and case studies also address different types of process industries, as well as hybrid environments (such as a manufacturer of cleaning solvents who also produces the cleaning equipment that uses the solvent).
