Microsoft: Power BI is a major Dynamics NAV theme in 2014

Mmicrosoft Dynamics NAV veteran Cristian Nicola's recent opinion piece on the need for more focus on Power BI with NAV drew a response from NAV BI program manager Jonathan Davis, who refuted some of Nicola's claims about a lack of emphasis on the technology at Convergence 2014 and asserted that Power BI is, in fact, a key focus area for the NAV team in 2014.

Davis notes several places where the NAV team did in fact promote Power BI at Convergence 2014:

"At the NAV General Session Keynote - our highest profile session - I did a 15 minute demo of Power BI that was extremely well received by partners and customers.

In the same keynote Erik Tiden, NAV General Manager, highlighted Azure, O365 and Power BI as the themes for NAV in 2014, as they were at Direction EMEA and USA in 2013."

Davis noted that there were other sessions during the event that demonstrated Power BI integration with NAV 2013 R2. He felt that "both customers and partners were very excited by what they saw."

While he didn't dive into all the team's plans for BI, Davis wrote that one reason why we're not yet seeing even more Power BI so far is the timing of releases by the different Microsoft teams. Davis explains:

"...we only discuss the latest version of NAV at Conferences. For Convergence 2014 this was NAV 2013R2, which was released in Sep 2013, 5 months before Power BI was released in February 2014.
