Microsoft extends Dynamics GP support to end of 2029, easing payroll and tax concerns

Microsoft announced in September 2024 that updates and product enhancements for Dynamics GP would end in September 2029. This week, Microsoft announced a three-month delay on that end date, extending product enhancements to December 31, 2029.

Via an update to their original article and support blog post announcing the decision, Microsoft stated that the change would allow for customers still on GP to get payroll and tax updates for the full year: 

Update as of January 15, 2025: Dynamics GP product support and updates will now end on December 31, 2029. This update will allow GP customers to meet their payroll and taxes obligations for the full year. Previously, it was announced that support would end on September 30, 2029, with security patches continuing until April 30, 2031. The end date for security patches remains unchanged and will still be April 30, 2031.

For GP advocates, this change from Microsoft signaled a positive outcome, according to GP professional and GPUG community manager Terry Hataley. In response to the change, he wrote:
