Microsoft Dynamics Lifecycle Services (LCS) August 2017 update adjusts deployment options, addresses on-prem

The August 2017 update to Microsoft Dynamics Lifecycle Services (LCS) has been released, and, according to an announcement, it includes a series of updates to the deployment options and processes that impact both cloud and on-premises systems.

LCS "customer implementation projects" will allow customers to deploy Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations, Enterprise Edition (D365FOE) to their own Microsoft Azure subscription. These cloud-hosted environments can be used for build and development environments for dev, build, and test activities.

Microsoft has updated its development topology options for partner and trial projects. The new options, "Build and Test" and "Develop", can be used for team development and they "enable the deployment of a single build environment" and provide more control, according to the announcement.

And Microsoft has adjusted the deployment flow for customer implementation projects. They have limited the types of packages that can be slipstreamed during environment deployment, and some packages must be applied after an environment is deployed to reduce delays and errors.

D365FOE on-premises deployments also require the use of LCS, and the August release includes some improvements. LCS will provide frequent status updates for deployments to on-prem enivronments. Partners can trial the LCS on-prem deployment approach with a "Migrate, create solutions and learn" project type.
