A Microsoft Dynamics GP Crystal Ball: What to Expect for GP 11, BI, Management Reporter, Support

The fortune teller was closed due to unforeseen circumstances, so you get me instead.  I've peered into my crystal ball and have concluded that 2010 will be a milestone year for Microsoft Dynamics GP...so here are four key predictions I feel confident about making for the year ahead:

1. Dynamics GP 11 is going to be a big hit.

  • GP 11 is expected to be released right after Convergence this spring. Companies that are still on version 9 are very much overdue for an upgrade. Some of the key new features in version 11 like native emailing of P.O.'s and printing invoices via MS word will give companies a reason to embrace the GP 11 upgrade.
  • Workflow in GP 11 will no longer require Microsoft Office Sharepoint Server (MOSS) but will work with Windows Sharepoint Server included with Microsoft's server operating systems. This removes cost and experimentation barriers for workflow in Dynamics GP, which should help drive greater adoption of version 11.
  • Rumor has it that the folks at Microsoft have finally figured out that Dynamics GP drives a disproportionate amount of the Dynamics group's revenue, so I expect to see significant advertising and marketing dollars committed to the GP 11 launch. It's also not competing for attention against launches from the other Dynamics products.
  • The economy is slowly improving, but more important, the murky uncertainty is gone for many companies. The bright future may be farther out than they would like, but they can see that it's out there and should start making investments to capitalize on the ultimate upturn.

2. Business Intelligence will continue to be hot.

  • The upcoming release of Office 2010 will allow even tighter ...
