SQL Server 2025 performance issues
On the Knights of GP blog, David Musgrave wrote that Microsoft released SQL Server 2025 in November 2025. Dynamics GP 18.8 supports SQL Server 2025 starting with the January 2026 hotfix (version 18.8.1941).
Musgrave noted that GP 18.9, scheduled for release in October 2026, will also support SQL Server 2025, but Microsoft does not officially support or test it with older versions of GP.
He wrote that one of the new enhancements of SQL Server 2025 was the addition of iterated and salted password verifiers based on PBKDF2 (Password-Based Key Derivation Function 2).
In his post, Musgrave explained how this enhancement affects Dynamics GP, and offered a solution to the issue.
Log SQL statements in Dynamics GP
Writing on his blog, Tim Wappat stated that when you're working with Dynamics GP, you sometimes need to know what database operations are happening behind the scenes. He noted that this can help you diagnose issues or understand which database objects Dynamics GP is interacting with. He experienced this again recently when he was installing collections management and the installer gave him a SQL error.
