Automatically purging records from Microsoft Dynamics CRM: Writing at the Dynamics CRM blog, Joel Lindstrom, a CRM Technical Specialist at Customer Effective, says he was recently asked about purging records from Dynamics CRM. The company asking the question wanted to use CRM to store sensitive information. However, to mitigate the risk of e-discovery, company execs wanted any record 18 months old or older, automatically deleted from the system.
The execs figure that do that was going to require custom development or costly configuration but they were pleasantly surprised to see that it can be done using the standard bulk delete functionality.
Lindstrom then explains just how to do it.
But he cautions that deletions are permanent in CRM 2011. He says to be sure that in your record purging strategy you're not deleting records that users need to do their jobs and in the process diluting the effectiveness of your CRM system. Remember: the best approach is a balanced approach-one that meets your legal requirements as well as the needs of your end users.
