Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 News Bytes: Cumulative Update 2, Envisioning a ‘Mini AX’

Microsoft has released cumulative update number 2 for Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012. The update includes more than 70 fixes related to areas including RapidStart, performance issues with the GAB, workflow, and client crashes according to Dynamics AX bloggers.

"A lot of the fixes [are] around workflow, financial dimensions, EP Time sheets, etc. etc.," wrote Brandon George on his blog. "It's important that everyone update to this latest CU2 to help address any issues before contacting Microsoft support for new issues."

George also notes the cumulative updates, which include the updates from CU1, can be slipstreamed for fast deployment. And if you have an AOS server that doesn't have a 32-bit client installed on it, you can't proceed with the CU2 update.

We haven't seen too much buzz coming out of the recent Dynamics AX Technical Conference 2011 in Nice, but AX blogger Willy responds to an interesting question posed at the event earlier this month regarding whether Microsoft has plans to develop a "myAX," mini version of Dynamics AX for smaller companies.

"With each major release of Dynamics AX, we see an increase in functionality, an increase in complexity," Willy wrote.  Despite all the effort that goes into simplifying Dynamics AX for users and partners, more functionality, which means more possibilities, also means more complexity, he says.

"And yes, we have RapidStart Services now," Willy writes. "But that's no magic wand."
