A configured read-only role requires an operations or activity license

Writing on his Dynamicspedia blog, André Arnaud De Calavon stated that security in Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations isn't easy.

He wrote that defining custom roles has a licensing impact. Sometimes the customer expects a particular license for a role, but the application states something different.

Arnaud De Calavon provided a scenario where the license expectation is a team member SKU as the intention is to have a read-only role, but the role ends up as an operations license. He stated that over the years, Microsoft has made many changes to the licensing in D365FO.

Next to a split in license SKUs, one major change is that license requirements are determined on the privilege level, which will override license details mentioned on the menu items with the base license SKU if maintained in a list that is part of the application. This was one way to fix the split of the Cloud Dynamics 365 SKUs.

Arnaud De Calavon noted that Microsoft also lowered the license requirements for read-only permissions. He stated that for a lot of scenarios you would need an expensive license SKU for read-only users; however, now it should always be a team member.

He wrote that several people have asked him a question about an incorrect license assignment to roles. He stated that he was able to find the problem and he shared the explanation in his blog post.

Enabling physical negative inventory in Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations

On the Cloudfronts blog, Hitesh Jingare wrote that when it comes to inventory management, companies often need flexibility, especially when they're dealing with orders that exceed current stock levels. He noted that D365FO offers a solution to this challenge through enabling physical negative inventory.

Jingare stated that this functionality lets organizations create sales orders even when they have insufficient inventory levels, catering to scenarios where a stock may be incoming or when manufacturing units are involved.

In his blog post, Jingare explained the purpose of physical negative inventory, the process to enable physical inventory, and the steps necessary to manage physical negative inventory. He also discussed the issues companies face if they don't follow proper procedures.
