Dynamics 365 Portal conditional action buttons on entity forms

Nicholas Hayduk, writing in Engineered Code, said that he was asked on the Dynamics 365 Community forum about how to hide or show a workflow action button, determined by the current user's role. Action buttons allow a wide-range of options such as create a new record, activate or deactivate a record, run a worklflow on a record and more.

Within an Entity List, non-record-specific actions (like download or create) appear above the list, and the record-specific actions (like edit, delete, and run workflow) appear as options in a dropdown in an additional column in the grid. On an Entity Form, you have the choice of adding these buttons above or below the form itself. Of course, the necessary Entity Permissions are required for a user to perform these actions.

The person who posted the forum question wanted to know how to add a button to an Entity Form to run a workflow for a particular record, with the button appearing only for certain roles. Hayduk explained the jQuery, JavaScript, Liquid and security considerations for creating conditional entity forms. You can read more here.
