Business Central and IRS 1099 reporting in the USA: An important shift ahead

Writing on the Microsoft Dynamics 365 Blog, Aleksandar Totovic stated that for years, Business Central made it easy to handle 1099 reporting. Users could set up 1099 form boxes, mark vendors as 1099-liable, and take care of reporting as part of their usual purchasing and payment tasks. Then at the end of the year, they could print the forms on official IRS paper.

However, Totovic pointed out that because the IRS often makes changes to the 1099 forms late in the year, usually in October or November, Microsoft had to wait to update D365BC. He wrote that this caused delays and made things difficult and stressful for users, partners, and customers.

Recognizing the need for a more resilient and modern approach, Microsoft has introduced a completely new 1099 reporting experience. This is not a redesign of the existing functionality, but a brand-new solution delivered as a preinstalled, standalone IRS Forms app in U.S. Business Central environments. This shift brings a fresh architecture and process flow, from setup to submission, with the most significant change occurring at the end of the reporting cycle.

Totovic stated that the entire process, from setup to filing, has been redesigned with a new structure, and the biggest changes happen at the final stage of reporting. He explained what this means for users and vendors.

BC on-prem: Be careful when referencing .NET assemblies across versions

Writing on his blog, Stefano Demiliani stated that last week he received a support request from a partner who was helping a customer upgrade their on-premises version of D365BC.
