Microsoft is contacting customers and partners today with an update on compatibility between Microsoft Dynamics GP  2010 and SQL Server 2013.

The short story, as clarified by the DynamicsCare blog, is that a hot fix for SQL Server 2012 will enable compatibility with Dynamics GP 2010 right away.  Business Portal 5.1 will require Service Pack 3, coming in the summer.

Microsoft's Lucas Miller also provided an alert on the Microsoft Dyanmics GP Support Blog that promised more details in the coming weeks from Microsoft on what the new features of SQL Server 2012 will mean for Dynamics GP users.

Until now most talk about SQL Server 2012 has been limited to the Dynamics AX, including how the ERP solution can take advantage of capabilities like AlwaysOn Availability Groups.  This feature provides the general benefits of high availability and failover, but also has the potential to improve reporting performance by offering a way to offload some data warehousing needs from the primary database.

Use of PowerView report building tool could be an intriguing improvement for GP 2010 customers as well with its ability to drill down into data sets and create "custom tabular BI models".
