Microsoft 2023 Q2: Earnings dip as revenue growth slows in cloud, business apps

Microsoft reported earnings of $2.20 per share on revenue of $52.7 billion in Q2 2023.

CFO Amy Hood pointed to 22% growth in Microsoft Cloud revenue and strength in commercial offerings, while promising to stay "focused on operational excellence".

Among the results shared by the company were:

• Server products and cloud services revenue increased 20% (up 26% in constant currency) driven by Azure and other cloud services revenue growth that slowed to 31% (up 38% in constant currency)
• Dynamics products and cloud services revenue increased 13% (up 20% in constant currency) driven by Dynamics 365 revenue continued to slow, growing at 21% (up 29% in constant currency)
• Office Commercial products and cloud services revenue increased 7% (up 14% in constant currency) driven by Office 365 Commercial revenue growth of 11% (up 18% in constant currency)
• Windows Commercial products and cloud services revenue decreased 3% (up 3% in constant currency)

CEO Satya Nadella stated that the company stated remains focused on deploying AI across their products and services.

In Q1 2023, Microsoft reported earnings of $2.35 per share on revenue of $50.1 billion, beating analyst estimates. Dynamics 365 revenue grew of 24% and Azure and other cloud services revenue growth of 35%

In Q2 2022, Microsoft announced earnings per share of $2.48 on revenue of $51.7 billion. Net income was $18.8 billion. Dynamics 365 revenue grew 45% to boost overall Dynamics revenue 29%. Power Apps grew 161%. LinkedIn revenue grew 37%, while Office 365 Commercial revenue saw growth of 19%. Azure and other cloud services revenue grew 46%.
