Lumada IoTHitachi, Ltd announced support for a new automated field service work flow that uses the company's Lumada IoT platform to connect modelling and analytical data from MathWorks MATLAB and Simulink with Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Field Service.

The offering relies on Node-RED, the GUI-based, non-commercial programming tool for hardware connectivity to "facilitate the analytic operational flow from collecting data to analysis," according to a statement by Hitachi.

The company explained further how the initial version of the connected solution behaves:

A MATLAB data analytics algorithm, "wear condition estimation model" was controlled from Node-RED and combined with service and item data on Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Field Service, to realize the automatic registration of information related to maintenance items based on wear-related failure prediction.

Hitachi stated that the company intends to expand the range of analytics algorithms and connectable work systems, as well as to continue investing in the open source elements of the solution.

Hitachi first announced its involvement with the open source Node-RED project in August 2017 with the development of the company's Flow Connection Gateway, a technology that enables integrated management of connecting interfaces between systems on Node-RED to simplify the processing and data coordination between systems.

In a statement, Satoru Abe, industry marketing manager of MathWorks said that the company expects the collaboration to yield meaningful predictive insights:

"In collaboration with Hitachi, MATLAB and Simulink provide advanced algorithms and apps for data analytics and machine learning that can be used directly as the analytics engine for maintenance operation business systems. We expect this integrated platform to ...
