Head to Head: New Shootout Puts Microsoft Dynamics AX, GP, SL to the Test for Professional Services Organizations

Boyer & Associates, a Minnesota-based Microsoft partner with a long history on Microsoft Dynamics GP and SL, has announced it is adding Dynamics AX to its product list, and the firm will be introducing AX to its clients and prospects with a bit of excitement - a Dynamics Shootout event pitting the three products against each other in front of a live audience.

Founder Jack Boyer will be taking on the challenge of demonstrating Dynamics AX based on just four days of training - certainly a risk given the breadth of AX capabilities and the fact that his "adversaries" in the shootout are long time SL and GP veteran practice managers at the firm with dozens of implementations of SL and GP under their belts. But Boyer has been voicing his interest in AX for professional services for a while now with blog posts about the improvements in AX 2012 and a piece for our publication on the role of AX in the future of the Dynamics ERP product line.

Boyer tells us that realistically, they only expect to see their largest clients moving to AX initially, mostly due to performance issues related to database size and performance.

The event is aimed at the typical Dynamics SL audience, professional services organization (PSOs). On reason for holding the shootout: some PSOs "may be outgrowing what they have or in need of more or better workflow," Boyer writes.
