Extending Microsoft Dynamics GP Manufacturing: Six Add-Ons for Process and Industry Needs

by Frank Hamelly
Senior Consultant, I.B.I.S., Inc.,

Microsoft Dynamics GP's Manufacturing module is best known for its discrete manufacturing capabilities and does an admirable job of meeting the requirements of discrete manufacturers in mid-market to enterprise-level organizations.  Although I've seen it used in process manufacturing industries such as food, cosmetics, and life sciences, application in these industries is not in playing to the Manufacturing module's strengths.

If you're a process manufacturer or a discrete-mode manufacturer using Dynamics GP with specific industry requirements, it is worth understanding how different 3rd party add-on manufacturing solutions can work with your GP solution to provide more value to your organization.

The list of solutions below, all of which integrate with Dynamics GP, is in no particular order and I have no preference for or relationships with any of the ISVs' (Independent Software Vendors) whose products are listed.

Horizons International - Process & Discrete Manufacturing

Production control and planning for process manufacturers can be particularly demanding due to the need to constantly switch between the management of batches or blends of products and the discrete packaging generally required in order to distribute those products. For discrete manufacturers there are corresponding challenges when lean concepts are introduced to the shop floor. Horizons Manufacturing blends these diverse needs into a single solution that robustly meets the needs of all with mixed mode functionality.  The solution is applicable to the following industries:

  • Food Processing
  • Chemicals
  • Life Sciences
  • Hi Tech Engineering
  • Paper Converting
  • Equipment & Machinery Mfg
  • Reverse Logistics for Recycling
