Easier Administration: Discovering Free SQL Tools and Tips for Microsoft Dynamics GP

New and experienced administrators of Microsoft Dynamics GP have similar sets of needs, just at different levels.

New administrators need to know what tools and SQL scripts are available to help them better manage Dynamics GP. Experienced administrators want to know about available tools and scripts that they may have missed. Everyone wants to know how to find the right table or tables for reporting.

There is no magic bullet to solving every need of a Dynamics GP administrator but there are a lot of tools available to help.  For example:

  • The Support Debugging Tool from Microsoft offers administrator's the ability to execute SQL code from within the application, trace SQL queries and hunt down table and field names.
  • DynamicAccounting.net provides an Excel based tool to find table and fields names along with hundreds of Dynamics GP-related SQL scripts curated from across the internet.
  • SQL views installed with SmartList Builder (whether registered or not) simplify advanced reporting.
  • A ton of bloggers have provided SQL code examples for use with Dynamics GP and for providing better administration of SQL Server.

All of these resources help administrators answer questions like:
