A Decade in the Dynamics NAV Community: A Microsoft MVP’s Perspective
The date that I registered for the forum on Mibuso is Tuesday July 19th 2005. I answered my first question at 5:25pm. You can still find it, although the MVP and NAV TechDays logos did not exist back then, and I only moved to Olst later.
Back then I was writing add-on software, working as an R&D developer for a Navision partner in my home town, biking to work each day. We were a small company, less than 20 people and most of my co-workers spent their days at customers. I was ever so happy to expand my world online.
Ten years later, the changes in the Navision - now Microsoft Dynamics NAV - community are like black and white. Microsoft went from forbidding their employees from being on Mibuso to encouraging them to be there. Today it is impossible to be everywhere and read everything about Dynamics NAV. As the product has evolved, so have the community structures and the roles of people like me who have built their careers around it.
Early Days of the Community
Back in 2005, MiBuSo and MBSOnline (now DynamicsUser.net) were the community. MiBuSo started in 1999 as mynavision.net and Dynamicsuser.net started in 1995 as a mailing list. I guess I was already late. Both websites had forums that were well visited with good questions to answer. I was happy. Working in a small company gave me the opportunity to interact with peers, learning and sharing knowledge.
