A Decade in the Dynamics NAV Community: A Microsoft MVP’s Perspective

The date that I registered for the forum on Mibuso is Tuesday July 19th 2005. I answered my first question at 5:25pm. You can still find it, although the MVP and NAV TechDays logos did not exist back then, and I only moved to Olst later.

Back then I was writing add-on software, working as an R&D developer for a Navision partner in my home town, biking to work each day. We were a small company, less than 20 people and most of my co-workers spent their days at customers. I was ever so happy to expand my world online.

Ten years later, the changes in the Navision - now Microsoft Dynamics NAV - community are like black and white. Microsoft went from forbidding their employees from being on Mibuso to encouraging them to be there. Today it is impossible to be everywhere and read everything about Dynamics NAV. As the product has evolved, so have the community structures and the roles of people like me who have built their careers around it.

Early Days of the Community

Back in 2005, MiBuSo and MBSOnline (now DynamicsUser.net) were the community. MiBuSo started in 1999 as mynavision.net and Dynamicsuser.net started in 1995 as a mailing list. I guess I was already late. Both websites had forums that were well visited with good questions to answer. I was happy. Working in a small company gave me the opportunity to interact with peers, learning and sharing knowledge.

About Marije Brummel

Author, Programmer, Consultant, Project Manager, Presenter, Evangelist, Sales person and Trainer. Working for Partners, ISV’s, End Users, Master VARs and Microsoft across the globe in more than 25 countries. It’s next to impossible to find someone as widely and deeply experienced as Marije in the Business Central community.

Marije received numerous awards including the Microsoft MVP award and the NAVUG All-Star. She was chair of the Dynamics Credentialling committee and authored the official Microsoft Exam materials. She did both onsite and online readiness sessions for Microsoft when the product went through major changes such as moving from two to three tier and the introduction of extensions. 

Her biggest passion is changing the world for the better in every way possible. One of her biggest achievements was the introduction of Design Patterns into the Business Central community. 

She is the go-to-girl when it comes to performance troubleshooting and upgrade challenges. Technologies such as the Azure stack and Web frameworks don’t hold secrets in regards to Business Central.

Marije wrote a number of books and countless blog articles and YouTube videos, which influenced almost every person and project involved with Business Central.

At home she enjoys the outdoors with her dog and tries to spend as much time as possible with her kids and family. She likes shopping and traveling.
