Breaking the company boundary: Cross-legal-entity fulfillment and advanced warehouse support in DOM
On the Microsoft Dynamics 365 blog, Yufei Huang and Anupama Raju wrote about how the new cross-legal-entity fulfillment optimization feature can help companies fill orders using inventory held by different legal entities within the same organization.
The authors stated that the feature uses distributed order management to compare inventory across participating warehouses and stores. It can choose a fulfillment location based on availability, distance, cost, and the company's sourcing rules. They noted that employees can continue using their usual processes for picking, packing, shipping, and invoicing.
The feature can help companies make better use of their inventory, reduce manual work, and fill customer orders faster, according to the authors. The initial version supports retail orders placed through stores, e-commerce sites, call centers, and other Microsoft Dynamics 365 Commerce channels. Microsoft plans to add support for broader D365 SCM sales orders.
The authors stated that the feature is available in private preview in D365 version 10.0.48 and is expected to enter public preview in version 10.0.49.
How much should you customize Dynamics 365 Finance and Supply Chain Management?
On the ERP Software Blog, an author from Caf2Code LLC examined the decision to customize a D365 F&SCM system. Based on their experience, the amount of custom code in a system is often a better sign of whether a project will succeed than the company's size, industry, or budget.
