#GPPT using .NET math functions from Microsoft Dynamics GP

On the Winthrop Development Consultants blog, David Musgrave wrote that recently he worked on a customization project in GP Power Tools that required calculating a square root as part of the number crunching needed to determine material quantities in a sales order processing transaction.

He explained that while Dexterity, the language behind Microsoft Dynamics GP, handles standard accounting-style calculations well (like a basic calculator), it doesn't include advanced mathematical functions, such as powers, logarithms, or trigonometry. As a result, he stated that there's no built-in method to calculate a square root.

Musgrave noted that with version 14.0, Dexterity includes a .NET interop feature that lets you import and call .NET libraries directly from your Dexterity scripts. He offered an example that uses the System.Math library along with advanced techniques, such as custom forms and virtual fields.
