Microsoft is moving toward a public preview of a new Business Events framework for Business Central. The company is encouraging its partners to understand how Business Events can be used in the context of Dataverse to offer Business Central organizations new and more flexible ways use the ERP in event orchestration and process analysis.
Business Central to Dataverse integration options currently available can accommodate a range of scenarios, explained Sandy Winarko, Microsoft principal program manager for Business Central, at Directions North America 2023. Data synchronization, virtual tables, and data events enable different inbound and outbound interactions today. The upcoming Business Events framework in Business Central will allow for more refined solution architectures due to its customizable nature.
Business Events are currently in private preview in BC version 22.0. And while interested partners and customers can still apply to be part of the private preview, a public preview is expected in BC version 22.1 or 22.2.
To understand the importance of Business Events, Winarko said, solution architects need to understand the capabilities and limitations of the full range of other integration options.
Data synchronization replicates data changes between overlapping tables in BC and Dataverse, where each table has its associated business logic that depends on the presence of local data. Replication can be unidirectional or bidirectional via Service-to-Service calls, and data is duplicated.
