Azure Updates: Monitor; VMware Solution; Project Flash; Front Door

Microsoft VP Farzana Rahman encouraged customers to support their cloud journey with Azure Monitor. Monitor managed service for Prometheus, in preview, and Managed Grafana provide ingestion for metrics, and ways to troubleshoot infrastructure and dashboard health respectively.

“With Azure Monitor’s unified cloud-native offering for Kubernetes monitoring, you can easily set up log collection alongside managed service for Prometheus,” Rahman wrote, explaining that Microsoft is trying to scale up capabilities like Prometheus for enterprise workloads.

Microsoft Partner Director Ram Gowrishankar shared new additions to the Azure VMware Solution portfolio. The updates, announced at VMware Explore in Barcelona, include Stretched Cluster for 99.99 percent uptime, NetApp Files Datastores generally available for storage intensive workloads, new node sizing, and customer managed keys.

CTO Mark Russinovich shared a Project Flash update. Part of an initiative across Azure Engineering to boost Azure VM availability monitoring, Project Flash has now resulted in the general availability of VM availability tracking for Resource Graph, an availability metric in preview for Monitor, and status change events for Event Grid. Russinovich shared code samples to start querying.

Building on the announcement of new Azure Front Door tiers earlier this year, Microsoft announced the Front Door tier migration capability. A migration capability for CDN classic will be coming soon. Senior product manager Jessie Jia explained:
