Writing a book is hard. Writing two books simultaneously, while updating a third, is full on crazy. I don't recommend it, and yet I'm really happy with the results. In February of 2017 I and my colleagues at Fastpath had just finished publishing the first edition of the successful Security and Audit Field Manual for NetSuite. We were pretty proud of that accomplishment. That led to what's next. I wanted to write a Dynamics GP version. I have lots of experience there, and it seemed straightforward to write. Andy wanted to write a Dynamics 365 edition, specifically for the product then known as Operations, the next iteration of Dynamics AX.

So, we compromised and decided to write both. We don't compromise well.

The logical place to launch these books was Summit in October 2017, but with lead times for editing and shipping, we really needed the books done by September 15. Not the manuscripts done and ready for editing, but done, done, done and ready to print. There was a little wiggle room, but not much. We were also committed to updating the NetSuite book in this time frame, so more writing. Adding to this, D365 for Operations was getting a minimum of monthly updates, often more frequently, and seemed to change products names just as fast. One last little wrinkle, we have full time jobs that require actual work.
