Microsoft Dynamics Profile: UK-based MVP Aims to Bring NAV to the C-Suite
James Crowter didn't set out to be a Microsoft Dynamics NAV MVP, but now that he is one, he knows that it's tough responsibility to live up to.
"The rest of the MVPs are an amazing bunch of people," says Crowter, managing director at Technology Management (TecMan), a UK-based company he founded in 1992. TecMan is a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner for both ERP and CRM.
Crowter says over the years, he has learned a lot from reading the blogs and other online writings as well as talking to people like Waldo (Eric Wauters) and Vjeko (Vjekoslav Babic) among other notable MVPs.
"It was an honor to join that group and I hope I can represent it adequately," he says.
Crowter, who received his first MVP award from Microsoft earlier this month, got his first taste of Dynamics NAV when he started his company. Having a background in ERP and implementation in the UK, Crowter worked with a number of legacy products before choosing Navision for TecMan.
In 1995, TecMan was looking for a new Windows-based product, and discovered Navision, a small Danish company that had just ventured into the UK. Despite the fact that Navision's solution was very light on features at that time, Crowter's company realized that it had some great technology and a lot of potential.
"So we selected it and at the beginning of November 1995, I did my first Navision training course," he says. "And we've been a Navision partner for twenty years [Microsoft bought Navision in 2002] as well."
